Avoiding Shading Losses in Concentrator Photovoltaics Using a Soft-Imprinted Cloaking Geometry

چکیده
Shading losses are a longstanding obstacle in photovoltaic devices, particularly concentrator photovoltaics, where the tradeoff between shading and resistive limits concentration at which highest power conversion efficiency is achieved to values far below capabilities of optics. Here, we demonstrate simple scalable fabrication method that enables large front metal coverage while keeping minimum. Soft-imprint lithography used create trenches transparent polymer above contacts, enabling cloaking via refraction range angles near normal incidence. Using optical characterization techniques, first confirm contacts indeed optically cloaked. We then an increase short-circuit current density from 29.95 39.12 mA/cm 2 for Si solar cell with 25% before after patterning, respectively. investigate angular performance trench pattern further how such strategy could be implemented photovoltaics enable peaks concentrations beyond 1000 suns.

MOTIVATION In response to the DOE SunShot initiative to achieve utility scale solar power generation at $1 per watt peak, Sandia National Laboratories is investigating a microsystems-enabled photovoltaics (MEPV) approach that combines the high conversion efficiencies of concentrated photovoltaics (CPV) with the form factor and low system costs of flat panel PV. MEPV combines solar cells having ...
متن کاملMotion Blur Using Geometry and Shading Distortion
When our demo team decided to implement a real-time version of the Animusic Pipe Dream Animation shown in the SIGGRAPH 2001 Electronic Theater, we realized that we needed to create a fast, reliable technique for rendering a convincing motion blur effect for the many balls moving around the complicated music machine shown in Figure 1. Although enough approaches existed for simulating motion-blur...
متن کاملBinary Shading Using Appearance and Geometry
In the style of binary shading, shape and illumination are depicted using two colors, typically black and white, that form coherent lines and regions in the image. We formulate the problem of assigning colors in the rendered image as an energy minimization, computed using graph cut on the image grid. The terms of this energy come from two sources: appearance (shading) and geometry (depth and cu...
متن کاملGeometry into Shading
Sometimes, when 3D CG objects are viewed from a distance, a great deal of geometry can end up inside a single pixel. When this happens, full-sized facets, or pixels in a displacement map should play the role of traditional micro-facets. Here we describe how to alter traditional shading calculations to take this into account.
متن کاملImproved Shading Performance by Avoiding Vector Normalization
Phongs illumination model requires unit length vectors. The surface normal has to be normalized due to the linear interpolation, and if we use single point light sources or a xed view point, we have to normalize the vectors pointing to the light source and to the viewer. Unfortunately, normalization is a relatively costly operation. One of the main reasons for this is the square root involved. ...
